Why should you create separate email addresses for your crypto accounts?

The crypto space is unfortunately full of hackers and spammers trying to get their greedy hands on your valuable cryptocurrencies and NFTs. Creating a separate email address(es) for your crypto accounts may increase your security dramatically. To create even more security, you may even create multiple email addresses, one for each exchange. A hacker would not have access to all your crypto activities if one of your accounts is hacked.

Another benefit to having separate emails for your crypto accounts is the reduction of phishing schemes. For example, I have had the same hotmail email address since 1997. Yes, you read that correctly, 1997! Since I have been such a long standing customer, my hotmail account receives lots of spam and phishing schemes. Therefore when I receive an email in my hotmail account (which I would never use for my crypto accounts) about my “Coinbase Account”, I know not to click any links. Having a separate email address for each exchange gives me dedicated and more secure email usage.

Which Email Provider should you choose for your crypto accounts?

Should you use a gmail email address for your crypto accounts? We would not encourage this. Gmail accounts have been hacked and are a target for phishing schemes. Also, Gmail does collect some of your personal data. We recommend using email addresses with more data protection by encryption, like Tutanota or Protonmail.

Most email providers, such as gmail, use TLS, transport layering services. TLS secures data against hackers and helps ensure that sensitive information is safe. However, TLS only ensures encryption until it reaches its target market server. Email providers Tutanota and Protonmail offer end to end encryption that even they are not able to decrypt.

Tips for creating strong logins and passwords for your cryptocurrency email accounts.

Never use logins or passwords with easily identifiable information, such as your kids, pets, address, birthdate, astrological sign, favorite things, passwords for other accounts, etc. Think about random numbers you may have memorized from your childhood, things you dislike, random words, multiple languages, etc. Pick words and numbers that no one else would know, then intermingle them throughout the login and password.

For example, say you remember your best friend’s pager number from high school and maybe you really dislike goat cheese. (Yes I am old and I actually love goat cheese.)Then add at least one type of special character and uppercase punctuation. For example:

Pager number: 555–567–4653

Words: goat cheese

Punctuation: %

Password generation example: 55g56oA7tch%46e5es3e

This password would be secure, not easily identifiable. However, if you know the numbers and the words, it can be easily remembered by you. Use the same process your email address. Never ever ever save any of your crypto logins or passwords in any digital format online. Use a notebook and handwrite all of your passwords inside it. Then keep the notebook in a very secure place. We will provide more information on how to safely secure your crypto logins and passwords in our next article.

If you are serious about protecting your crypto assets, consider using separate email addresses for each account. This will help keep your accounts more secure and make it harder for someone to hack into them. Be sure to follow Crypto Mom Club for more tips on how to stay safe in the world of cryptocurrency.
